HexCam Willing The Wind Industry On

Why are we at HexCam always talking about wind energy?

Each member of our team is acutely aware of the overwhelming evidence that human activity is leading to rising global temperatures, which, if left unchecked, could cause irreversible damage to the planet. We sat around a table and asked ourselves what we, with our combined skills, could do about it.

The answer was simple: Get actively involved in displacing fossil fuels with renewable energy.

The IEA (International Energy Agency) says such a shift of primary energy source could avoid 5-7 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions from the power sector globally. Only 0.3% of global electricity generation today is from wind turbines at sea. The potential for growth in this sector is huge… and paramount.

Drones can be used by skilled pilots to reduce the risk to humans who use ropes to hang off these enormous structures (some of the newer ones are almost as tall as the Eiffel tower), to inspect the condition of the blades and other components.

Drones collect the data in a fraction of the time, reducing costs and the risk to human lives. With the right software the data can be processed and presented with accuracy in a digestible format for maintenance teams to take confident decisions on what specific repairs they’ll conduct.

HexCam is based in Norwich – close to the Southern North Sea with its ideal conditions for wind energy generation. With our 8th anniversary looming, we look forward to seeing this sector growing in our region and doing our bit to promote it, service it and hopefully reduce rising temperatures for the next generation.
